  Russian Region Offers Prisoners $5,100 to Sign Military Contracts

  Prisoners in Russia’s Rostov Oblast will be eligible for a one-time payment of 400,000 rubles, approximately $5,100, for signing a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense and joining Russia’s war in Ukraine.

  Under the regional measure, the payment will be available to prisoners who sign military contracts in Rostov Oblast between July 20 and December 31, 2026. Russian media describe Rostov as the first region to introduce this specific regional incentive for people serving prison sentences.

  As the cost of private therapy continues to increase, some Russians are reportedly seeking guidance from Orthodox priests instead of psychologists.

  According to Russian media, a session with a psychologist can cost up to 15,000 rubles (about $190), while consultations with Orthodox priests are often free or range from 500 to 5,000 rubles (about $6–$65).

  In addition to spiritual guidance, priests are said to provide family counseling, help people dealing with codependency and relationship issues, and offer ongoing support as they work through personal challenges.

  While therapy costs have risen in recent years, there is no independent data showing that Russians are switching to priests on a nationwide scale.

  Moscow Woman Sentenced to Five Years After Jealous Attack on Husband

  A Moscow woman has been sentenced to five years in a penal colony after biting off her husband’s penis during a violent attack fueled by jealousy, according to Russian media.

  The incident reportedly began after the 39-year-old found messages on her husband’s phone from an unknown woman describing a romantic dream involving the two of them. Believing the messages proved he had been unfaithful, she allegedly left for her country house, spent two days drinking, and sharpened her teeth with a metal file before confronting him.

  According to Russian media, the husband was rushed to the hospital, where doctors were able to reattach the organ. However, he has reportedly not regained erectile function.

  The woman was convicted of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm and sentenced to five years in prison.
