  Wealthy Russians are reportedly entering fake same-sex partnerships to split the cost of Greece’s Golden Visa.

  According to Russian media reports, the scheme involves one Russian buying qualifying property in Greece for €250,000 while another registers as their same-sex partner and obtains residency as a family member — effectively splitting the investment to €125,000 each.

  The Greek residence permit provides access to life in Greece and visa-free travel within the Schengen Area.

  There is one particularly Russian irony here: same-sex relationships are being used to secure European residency while Russia itself has designated the so-called “international LGBT movement” as extremist.

  Russian companies are being offered entire teams of North Korean women for factory, kitchen and agricultural work.

  According to Russian media, outsourcing firms are recruiting workers from North Korea for jobs including food preparation, sewing and agriculture, with advertised pay starting at around 480 rubles per hour (about $5.90).

  The practice comes as Russian employers increasingly look abroad to fill labor shortages.

  Russians Rush to Buy Second Passports From Tiny Island Nations

  Demand among Russians for second citizenship in small island nations has surged, according to RBC.

  The most sought-after passports reportedly come from Vanuatu, São Tomé and Príncipe, Nauru and Mauritius. Buyers say the documents can make it easier to open bank accounts, complete international real estate transactions and, in some cases, simplify visa applications.

  The trend comes as wealthy Russians continue looking for ways to reduce the impact of international travel and financial restrictions.

  Authorities in the Russian city of Orenburg have praised municipal workers from Africa, saying they outperform local employees.

  Mayor Albert Yumadilov said the workers are willing to take on difficult and dirty jobs and even work on Sundays.

  He also complained that hiring workers from North Korea would be too expensive, saying they wanted nearly 170,000 rubles a month — about $2,200 for street-cleaning jobs, roughly three times more than the city was prepared to pay.

  Three African soccer players were reportedly invited to Russia to play for FC Ural — but ended up being sent to the war in Ukraine.

  In 2025, 19-year-old Cameroonian player Stevis Astrid Mevungu Mbe, his brother, and a friend received an offer from a supposed agent to join the Russian club. Not knowing Russian, they signed documents and flew to Moscow.

  But after landing, they were taken not to a training facility, but to a military recruitment office.

  It turned out the papers they had signed were actually one-year military contracts. They were allegedly told they could return to soccer after serving.

  Stevis ended up as an assault soldier and was wounded three times. His friend was killed, and his brother was captured. After his contract ended in May, the surviving Cameroonian settled in Yekaterinburg, where he now coaches teenagers.
