A Russian film company wants nearly $600,000 in state funding for a children’s movie about school drone competitions.
NG Production is developing Sky Lions, a movie about a sixth-grader named Lyovka who loves computer games and enters a school competition for piloting drones.
The proposed budget is 72 million rubles (about $838,000), with the producers requesting 50 million rubles (about $582,000) from Russia’s state-backed Cinema Fund.
The project is set to be directed by debut filmmaker Polina Kutikhina.
For now, the funding is being requested — it has not yet been confirmed as awarded.
Apparently, flying drones is the new school extracurricular.
