Russian Orthodox priests in Kaluga have taken an unusual approach to defending their city against drone attacks: prayers, a religious icon, and holy water.
On October 14, following recent drone attacks in the region, priests held a special prayer service asking God and the Virgin Mary to protect the city.
Then they climbed into cars and drove around Kaluga’s Pravoberezhye neighborhood carrying an icon of the Virgin Mary and sprinkling holy water along the way.
According to the local parish, residents have been living with the threat of drones, making divine protection particularly welcome.
The ceremony took place on the Orthodox Feast of the Protection of the Mother of God.
Russia’s air defense just got a holy water upgrade.
